To choose a used bike counts the individual specimen, not just the model name. Here is what information to look for in the card and what questions to ask the seller.
Identify the specimen you are evaluating
Check model, size, year when declared and set up shown in the card. Two bikes with the same name can have different components: a replacement done over time changes what you are comparing.
The photographs must help you to recognize the specimen and its details. If a point is unclear, ask for images or additional information before concluding the purchase.
State of use and interventions: concrete elements are needed
Ask what information is available on the previous use and what interventions are actually documented. A personal record, a previous owner's statement and a work recorded by the workshop are not the same thing.
Do not automatically assign to all used bikes an identical protocol, component replacement or certification: this information must be explicit for the proposed specimen.
For an e-bike check also the system information
Identify engine, battery and charger expected. If there is a diagnosis or report, ask for the date and meaning of the results: the mileage alone does not describe every aspect of the condition of the bike.
Any battery capacity or health values must be accompanied by a source and refer to the actual system. In the absence of a measure, do not turn an aesthetic evaluation into a percentage of performance.
Size, assistance and total cost
Check that the measure is suitable and consider the accessories you need. Ask what conditions of sale, warranty and assistance apply to the individual purchase by reading the documentation before payment.
If you need to compare used and new, compare explicit configurations and conditions. The lowest price, alone, does not answer all questions about purchase.
A useful request in four lines
Send the link of the bike and ask: "Is this the measure available? What is the layout of the specimen? What checks or interventions are documented? What delivery and assistance conditions apply?
To evaluate an online purchase, add your country and ask for confirmation of how to receive it. If you prefer to see the bike, you first agree to availability in the store.
